Moon-McGehee Chapter
The Daughters of the Republic of Texas

Our Chapter's Traveling Trunk

Our chapter’s new Traveling Texas History Trunk is filled with period items to display in local classrooms and school libraries.

Teachers may call us to schedule a trunk visit at any mutually agreeable time.  One of our members will bring the trunk, show the items, and then allow hands-on participation by students.  The trunk contains clothing that might have been worn during the Republic years, along with games, school artifacts, household items, and period foodstuffs.

A DRT Handbook for Teachers helps us supplement the classroom teacher’s lessons plans.  The handbook, created by Alamo historians and educators, contains some neat information about personal gear, clothing, snake bite remedies, natural dyes - even a recipe for broiled squirrel.  We look forward to the fun of sharing this information with area schoolchildren.  Calf foot jelly, anyone?
